For example, some upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others will make it lighter and stronger. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade an item can receive, as shown below. The first trinket a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which gives a small but useful bonus in speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player can then collect necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with certain types of trinkets. A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade, as it's often more beneficial to upgrade one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.
